4 Love of Canines gratefully acknowledges and thanks those of you who are an integral part of our rescue efforts to help save homeless pets and we thank you for taking the time to visit our site.

It is only with the generous donations of people like yourself that we are able to continue saving and aiding homeless pets. Regardless of whether or not you are able to adopt, your caring can directly impact the future happiness and security of homeless canines by helping to fund their veterinary care, providing food and other necessities, and by encouraging our volunteers and associates to continue the loving and selfless work that they do. Your contribution can literally mean the difference between life and death to a homeless canine. Making a donation to our rescue is also a nice way to pay tribute to a beloved canine companion by making a donation in their name.

If you would like to make a financial contribution to our rescue, you can do so quickly, safely and easily through Paypal by using the following link.

We thank you for your generosity!

Special Needs Pets

Mickey

Mikey was rescued from a shelter and several caring families were looking to adopt him. It appeared to the adoption team that Mickey would soon be part of a family where he would be dearly loved and cared for the rest of his life. Having been vaccinated, and now going in for his routine neuter all seemed like it was working towards a happy ending for Mickey.

Not long after he returned to his foster home however there was concern as Mickey was refusing to eat. Shortly thereafter his foster mom noticed that he was having some swelling in his neck and within a day Mickey looked as he does in the picture above where his head is three times the size it had been. Everyone including our veterinarian believed that he must be having an allergic reaction but that has now been ruled out as his condition continues to worsen.

In the mornings he has so much pain that he is unable to get up on his feet until after he has had his pain medication. A large hole has opened in his neck and with the fluids draining from his body, the risk of infection is very great. He remains under veterinarian care and we are hoping for a full recovery.

Taco

This little girl came to us from a kill shelter and had never been socialized with people. She was a terrified little thing and although she was making headway for a bit in her foster home as you can see by the above picture, she is now unable to keep any food down and is losing weight daily. We are needing to do further testing to find the underlying issue that is causing her digestion problems.

Bronson

Everyone who meets Bronson is instantly smitten with this handsome, friendly, and sociable dog. Although he is very playful and outgoing by nature, Bronson is unable to function as a normal dog due to a spinal injury. He is ataxic which leaves him unable to sense where his feet are and so when he tries to run and play he often stumbles and falls. Stairs are a very real danger for Bronson as his downward momentum has a tendency to place his body ahead of his feet and there is always the danger of further injury should he fall. He walks from memory only and under stress his condition worsens as his focus to put one foot in front of the other decreases. This big playful dog is often left to only watching the other dogs play, longing for a chance to join in the fun.

Bronson's wish to live and play as a normal dog can come true with the help of caring people willing to make it happen. We are attempting to raise the funds needed to send Bronson to Guelph where he will undergo an MRI and then surgery to repair the injured vertebra. We have been quoted a cost of $3,000 to $5,000 and as it is not deemed urgent by the veterinary community we have some time to raise the funds needed before he will be sent to Guelph.

I guarantee that if you had the opportunity to meet Bronson you would understand why this dog is so deserving of our help. Not only is he one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet, but he loves everyone and regardless of his disability he remains in good spirits and courageously never gives up. He has a huge heart and greets everyone with a wagging tail and a doggy kiss. Bronson is a beautiful dog both inside and out that is full of life and if you would like to help us give this dog the chance he deserves please donate today!

Update: Februaruy 2008

We just wanted to say thank you to all those who have donated towards Bronson's cause. We have had some remarkable people make very generous donations but we are still far short of our goal. We do not give up easily however and Bronson isn't going anywhere so we will continue to work on it and hope for the best.

By donating to our rescue you have the ability to directly impact the life and death needs of a companion animal and it doesn't have to be a monetary contribution. There could be items sitting in your home that are of no use to you any longer that could be of value to a sick puppy such as old blankets to keep him warm, a playpen to keep him safe, or a toy to keep him happy and reduce stress. Take a look at our "Wish List" for some ideas of the types of things needed.

If you have any pet related items that you would like to donate, please email us at info@4loveofcanines.com and we will make arrangements for you to either drop them off, or have a volunteer pick them up.
